Nacional vs Corinthians: A Thrilling Encounter

Game Summary of the 2012 Copa Libertadores Final

Synopsis

On April 12, 2012, the Estádio Antonio Oddone Sarubbi in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, became the stage for an unforgettable soccer match between Nacional and Corinthians in the final of the Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian visitors emerged victorious with a 1-3 triumph, securing their first-ever title in the tournament.

Nacional, the host team, started strong, dominating possession and creating several scoring chances. However, they were unable to capitalize on their dominance and went into the break goalless.

The second half was a different story. Corinthians took control of the game and opened the scoring in the 71st minute through Danilo. Just five minutes later, Emerson Sheik doubled Corinthians' lead, putting them firmly in charge of the match.

Nacional fought back and pulled one back through Juan Manuel Díaz, giving the home crowd hope. But their joy was short-lived as Jorge Henrique sealed the win for Corinthians in the 89th minute.

The victory marked a historic moment for Corinthians, as they became the first Brazilian team to lift the Copa Libertadores since 2006. It was also a bittersweet moment for Nacional, who had come so close to victory but ultimately fell short.
